INAUGURAL ST. LOUIS SMALL PRESS EXPO SET FOR FALL, SEEKS PARTICIPANTS<\/p>\n

Expo Will Celebrate and Connect Independent Publishers with Audiences and Each Other<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The St. Louis Small Press Expo (SPEx) is now accepting applications from publishers to participate in its inaugural event. The Expo kicks off with readings and live music on Friday evening, September 26 at Firecracker Press\u2019s new space in Old North St. Louis, then continues with a show and sale all day Saturday, September 27. Events both days will be free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

St. Louis has as many indie publishing projects as it has red brick houses. Locally grown publishers will table at the expo, sell their work, network and have the opportunity to take part in readings. Readers will find a diverse collection of publications to choose from. Writers and artists will discover new places to place their work. Future publishers will find advice on how to get started, and everyone can celebrate St. Louis, where the communities of writers, artists, and printers have created an environment where independent and unique projects are the rule rather than the exception.<\/p>\n

The application deadline is June 16, 2014 at 11:59 PM; final lineup will be announced in early July. Priority will be given to projects based in the St. Louis region. SPEx seeks the widest possible variety of participants. Publishers of zines, limited run art books, traditional books, journals of literature and\/or art are all encouraged to apply, especially those with a unique format or target audience. Application is free; tables will be $50 (6 feet) or $25 for a half table (3 feet), due at time of acceptance. Accepted participants will be listed on all promotional materials including links on the SPEx website. <\/p>\n

The St. Louis Small Press Expo is the work of Nicky Rainey (poet and Co-Host of KDHX\u2019s weekly show \u201cLiterature for the Halibut<\/a>\u201d), Jennifer Tappenden (Architrave Press<\/a>), Lauren Cardenas (Pie Crust Magazine<\/a>), Johnny Murdoc (Queer Young Cowboys<\/a>), Nick Kuntz, (Passionate Advocate and Maker of Zines, Comics and small press projects) and Christopher Chable (Somnadrome Press<\/a>). <\/p>\n
