buttercup (they/them) is a multidisciplinary digital artist based in Baltimore, Maryland with a particular focus in illustration, sequential art, and 2D animation. Their work consists of radical, yet familiar moments of Afrodiasporic and indigenous life with a specific focus on queer identity and a distinctive science-fiction/fantasy anime aesthetic. Their webcomic UM was adapted into graphic novel form and published by Radiator Comics in 2024. UM was listed as one of the Best New Comics for Adults in 2024 by the New York Public Library and has been nominated for the 2025 Best Graphic Album—Reprint Eisner Award.
